Three weeks ago when singer Jaguar toured Mukuru Kwa Reuben slums in Nairobi, one particular incident broke his heart . As he engaged with several youth and women groups, the Going Nowhere star met a 21-year-old Jacinta Kabura. Jacinta had remained bed- ridden for four years, after she was diagnosed with a serious heart condition. In her pursuit for medical attention though, Jacinta had been “chased” away from health facilities due to lack of funds to cater for the medical bills. She required Sh200,000 to have proper treatment. “Due to our poor living conditions, it’s been very hard for us to even raise a potion of that amount. It’s been a difficult period for us all,” says her sister only identified as Mary. Touched by her story, Jaguar then took it upon himself to see that Jacinta got the medical attention she direly needed. He had her moved to Kenyatta National Hospital where a heart surgery is expected to be done soon. Over the weekend, he visited her at the facility and assured her that he will handle all the medical bills arising from the treatment. I never do it expecting a reward or anything, but to just help as per my ability. “Love is the biggest commandment and we have to show it freely.” Jaguar, real names Charles Njagua Kanyi, is also a director at Kenya’s anti- drug body NACADA.
