Many farmers experience a much lower egg productivity during cold. Many of such farmers why helplessly for the performance to rise again, naturally, without knowing that the can actually do something to reverse the situation. Below are a few tips on how to get more eggs even when it is cold:
1. Choose the right feeds
Chicken need a higher supply of proteins during cold weather, both for warmth and for egg production. During this season the much more calories required can be obtained from proteins. Sunflower seeds and and corn are highly recomended at this time.
2. Fresh drinking water
During egg production chicken need a lot of water; first, for the metabolic processes involved, and two, for the egg itself. As such enough water intake for layers is encouraged even in cold weather. A farmer can supply small bits of warm water as many times as possible. One wet meal, daily, soaked either in milk or water is also highly recomended.
3. Light
The longer the day the more the eggs produced. During cold reasons darkness sets in earlier than usual and this reduces productivity of layers. A farmer should make sure that the ladies get at least 14 hours of daylight...or at least an artificial one for that matter. It's this amount of light that is required to trigger their clocks to lay. Therefore, an artificial source of light should be provided during this time.
