Sources of vitamins for chicken: the magic in cow dung

Vitamins play a crucial role in poultry feed formulation. Often lack of the various vitamins required by the birds leads to their exposure to a myriad of infections due to a compromised immune system.

Free range birds mostly depend on green grass or fresh green vegetables for vitamins, and especially vitamin A. Therefore, during dry reasons when greens are scarce such birds suffer a lot.

The good news is that farmers can avail fresh cow dung to their birds to stand for greens in dry seasons. Fresh cow dung is highly rich in vitamin A. However, the birds should be dewormed as soon as the rains come to rid them of the worms they might have gotten from the dung.
